About the Journal

Georgica: Journal of Georgian Studies is an open access annual periodic issued by the Faculty of Humanities of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. It is a peer-review journal for those academics engaged in the field of Humanities and especially in Georgian studies also known as Kartvelian studies. It maintains interdisciplinary approaches in the humanities. It accepts the articles and the book reviews on the Georgian studies in the fields of history, archaeology, history of arts, ethnology and philology.

The Journal Georgica (fields: Philosophy, Linguistics, History, Literary and Art Studies) was founded on June 9, 1977 at the formal founding ceremony, which took place in the Senate Hall of Friedrich Schiller University...

The publication was managed and its content determined by an editorial board and, furthermore, the heads of the publishing departments of both universities. The Journal ceased publication in 2018 and was restored in 2025 by the initiative of the Rector of Tbilisi State University, Acad. Jaba Samushia. It was relaunched in a new format under the title: Georgica: Journal of Georgian Studies. The restoration of the Journal was affirmed by a decision of the Faculty of Humanities at Tbilisi State University in September 2025. Since that date, the journal has been managed by the Faculty of Humanities at Tbilisi State University.
